In the upcoming Disney Plus series, the fabled Medusa of Perseus Jackson will be thoroughly examined, providing insight into their true story.

Referred to as the “Woman with Snake Hair” from Percy Jackson’s 2005 novels and Olympians books, Medusa’s character takes center stage as one of the first major successes.

However, the author’s wife and the executive producer of the TV series, Rebecca Riordan, revealed that Medusa will have a different story this time. Riordan explained, “The reason for not giving much importance to Medusa in the books was that it was Percy’s perspective, and we don’t have his point of view.”

Riordan stated that Rick (referring to Rick Riordan, the author) believed, “At the age of 12 in 2005, I didn’t think she had the ability to end Poseidon’s life.” He saw her as a terrifying woman trying to turn him into stone, saying, “She’s a monstrous woman trying to turn me into stone.”

Rebecca revealed that Medusa’s story was “one of the first things” they exchanged ideas about among the writers. The room is set up like, “Don’t have the patriarchal glasses.”

In Greek mythology, Medusa is a woman who takes a vow of celibacy to express devotion to the goddess Athena. Medusa eventually has a sexual encounter with the sea god Poseidon, which occurs in Athena’s temple. Afterward, Athena punishes Medusa, transforming her into the Gorgon who turns anyone she gazes at into stone. Perseus, named Percy Jackson in Demigod Percy Jackson’s honor, kills her and presents her head to Athena as a gift.

According to some interpretations, the encounter in Athena’s temple was not consensual because Poseidon had violated Medusa’s sanctity.
